We have 4 dogs and 2 of them are brother and sister(they are 1 year old). Since the girl respects me more i thought it would be fun to teach her other tricks then sitting and lieing down. What are other trick i can teach her and what is the best way to teach her?

    There are a lot of tricks. How about answering the phone, fetching the remote control for you. Your options are numerous. But whatever you choose, only teach one trick at a time. And don’t spend a long time when training otherwise the dog will become bored, make it a game that she will enjoy and share the fun with her. Lots of love, patience and rewards should do the trick. Excuse the pun.

    when your teaching your dog to sit say sit and push her but down.repeat often . when teaching lay down in sit position push shoulders say lay down however you like . repeat often.

    It Is Usually Best to Train DAWGS, at A Very Young Age..Usually I Have Mine Trained By 3-4 Months Old.Dawgs Can Do All Kinds Of Things,Repetiveness Is The Answer,Or A Well Trained Dawg They Can Mimick Works Well Too…

    (1)Teach her to fetch. Tell her by no more than a four word command. Use the same words and the same tone of voice. When you get her to return the item(s) to you, check the clenching. If the bite is too hard, she could tear things such as the morning paper. Tell her to “loosen”, and tug softly on the object. Tell her about 2-3 times. If she doesn’t, tap her lightly by her mouth and say it again. When she does it, reward her with petting and a hug. Don’t use food because she’ll learn to expect food as a reward for good behavior. You’ll have to break her of expecting it all the time if you reward her like that.(2) Shaking her paw: Get her to allow you to hold her paws. Some dogs are comfortable with it–sometimes, the owner has to MAKE the dog be comfortable with paw holding. When she’s comfortable, using the same process as in the fetching trick above, tell her a command to let her know you want to “shake hands.” Touch her paw or paws, if you want her to learn to shake paws with you with both front feet, softly on the right side as you’re facing her. Until she learns, pick up her paw and place it in your hand. Shake it. Do this repeatedly until she does it automatically. Good luck!

    Its best to teach dogs tricks that follow their instincts. My Lhasa likes to mimic my cats that paw at each other, so I labelled it “be a kitty.” He also likes to stand on his back legs so he can “dance”.

    Here’s some tricks that are fun to teach dogs:
    Wave
    Paw (then, left paw/right paw)
    Play dead (for dogs who will lay on their backs)
    Bow (based on a play bow)
    Roll over
    Sit pretty/dance (sitting with feet off the floor/standing up)
    Names of toys (balls, rope toys, etc.)
    Clean up your toys!
    Kisses
    Hugs (hard one because the dog needs to either jump up on your or jump into your arms)
    Through the window (ie: if you have a big dog they can jump through the car window into the car)
    Over things
    Through hoops

    The best method, from my experience, is clicker training. It’s really great for teaching hard/complex tricks as well as unlearning beahvior problems.

    You buy “mini naturals” its a training treat for dogs, they love them so much they will do anything for them. You repeatily show the dog what you want it to do and say the “word” (sit, stay, shake, down) and give him a treat immediately when the trick is completed. The dog will learn that when he hears the “word” he will need to do something to get the treat. Another good training treat are liver biscottis.

    I tought my chihuahua how to shake. Its so cute when he does it. To teach her you have to tell her shake, don’t fluctuate between calling the trick different things like gimme your paw and shake. Just choose one. When you are telling her, pick up her paw and praise her, them give her a treat. Repeat this over and over and she will learn that when she picks up her paw she will get a treat.     My favorite is teaching a dog how to get something for you! Start by picking a favorite toy or something she can easily fit in her mouth, than teach her how to hold it. Put the toy touching her mouth and say a command (such as hold), then put a little pressure until she opens her mouth and bites down on the toy. Let your hand off the toy and if she doesn’t drop it, praise her and give her a treat! If she does drop it, then try again. After she gets the hold command, you need to teach her to drop it, which is a lot easier. Just say a command (like drop it) and take it out of her mouth. When she lets go, praise her and give her a treat. After she has both of these, put the toy on the ground and say your first command (hold), and when she picks it up and holds it then give her lots of praise and treats. Then have her drop it! Though this trick takes a lot of consistency, it’s not much more than any other trick. And its really cool to have your dog picking up your house for you!
